Cuba is a country in Central America with 11.5 million inhabitants. The socialist republic consists of the islands of Cuba, Isla de la Juventud and a number of small islands. Cuba is enclosed by the Caribbean Sea, the Strait of Yucután, the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Windward Passage. Surrounding countries are the United States, Mexico, the Bahamas, Haiti and Jamaica. The landscape consists of four mountains, but also has flat terrain. Many rivers flow in Cuba. The north coast is rocky and there are many coral reefs. The south coast is mountainous with foothills in the sea. There is a tropical and humid climate, with a hurricane season. The capital Havana has 2.2 million inhabitants and has many old buildings and monuments such as the Capitol, the Marti monument, the theaters and the Museum of the Revolution. Other recommended places are the Colón Cemetery, the Malecon Boulevard or the Spanish forts. Other cities are Bayamo, Guantánamo, Holguín, Pinar del Río, Santa Clara, Santiago de Cuba and Varadero. The UNESCO World Heritage List includes Trinidad and Valle de los Ingenios, Old Havana with fortifications, San Pedro de la Roca Castle, Desembarco del Granma National Park, Viñales Valley, Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, first coffee plantations and historic centers of Cienfuegos and Camagüey.
