Bolivia is a country in South America with 9.3 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Chile, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. To the west lie the two mountain ranges of the Andes Mountains. In between lies the highlands of Bolivia de Altiplano, and the largest salt flats in the world, Salar de Uyuni. Above that is Lake Titicaca. In the southwest there are deserts, salt lakes and salt marshes. In the east mountain ranges, valleys and a valley area. The Amazon rainforest is in the north. Furthermore, volcanoes, savannah areas, pampas (grassy plains), nitric deserts and lowlands. There is mainly a (sub) tropical climate. Only in the highlands is it cold. The rainfall varies greatly per region. The capital Sucre has 250,000 inhabitants. The government is based in La Paz. Other important cities are Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Cochabamba, El Alto, Oruro, Sucre, Tarija, Potosí, Montero and Trinidad. UNESCO World Heritage Sites include the city of Potosí, the Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos, the historic center of Sucre, the Inca ruins of Fuerte de Samaipata, the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park and Tiwanaku. Other places of interest are Madidi National Park, Guarani and Uros Indians, Isla del Sol, Inca and Tiahuanacu culture, coca museum and Laguna Colorado.
