Archaeology literally means the teachings or knowledge of the old or ancient (archaios is Greek for 'old' and logos means' knowledge '). The archaeology deals with physical remnants of past human activities. On this basis, the archaeologist trying to understand something of the manner in which people previously lived. Other major cities are Medellín, Santiago de Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Cucuta, Bucaramanga, Pereira, Santa Marta and Ibague. On the list of UNESCO world heritage, the fortifications, the port and a group of monuments in Cartagena, Los Katios National Park, the historic center of Santa Cruz de Mompox, the reserve Malpelo and archaeological parks Tierradentro and San Agustín. Other attractions include the Salt Cathedral, the White City Popoayan and Philippe castle.
