It is located in the Caribbean on the eastern half of the island of Hispaniola. Neighboring Haiti is located on the western part. The colonial part of town is on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. Other major cities are Bonao, Bajos the Haina, Barahona, Higúey, La Romana, La Vega, Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, San Francisco de Macorís, San Pedro de Macorís Santiago. Other attractions are the Christ Statue on Mount Isabel de Torres, the Brugal rum factory, Samaná Peninsula, the Creole cuisine, the merengue, the Amber Museum, the national parks and the Caribbean nature.
