Brazil is the largest country in South America and has 192 million inhabitants. It borders to almost all countries except Chile and Ecuador. The republic has a long coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The landscape is varied. In the north the highlands of Guyana. In the northwest is the Amazon basin with tropical rainforest. In the northeast is desert-like area. The coast with many cities and rainforest. Central and Southern is the highlands of Brazil with tropical rainforest and savannas. There is a tropical climate with somewhat drier areas. Capital Brasilia has 1.8 million inhabitants. Attractions are the Cathedral of Brasilia and the many churches and government buildings. Other major cities are Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Goiânia, Guarulhos, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. On the list of UNESCO world heritage is Brasilia and the historical centers of Ouro Preto, Olinda, Salvador de Bahia, Sao Luis, Diamanta and Goiás. Furthermore, several Jesuit Missions of the Guarani, the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Congonhas and many national parks and nature reserves. Other attractions are the sugar mountain, the Copa Cobana, Manaus and waterfalls of Foz do Iguazu.
