Belize

Belize is a country in Central America, with 300,000 inhabitants. It is located on the Yucatán peninsula. Neighboring countries are Mexico and Guatemala. The parliamentary monarchy has a coastline on the Caribbean Sea. The country was called British Honduras until 1973. Since 1964, Belize self-governance. The country is a member of the British Commonwealth. The Maya Mountain is located south and central. In the inland hills and tropical forests. Caves are located throughout the country. Off the coast even underwater caves. Along the coast are mangrove forests and swamp areas. In the Caribbean Sea are the islands of Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye and Turneffe islands. Furthermore, some 200 cays and coral reefs. The Barrier Reef of Belize is on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. The rivers, the Rio Hondo, Belize and the Sarstoon are surrounded by marshes and freshwater lagoons. There is a subtropical climate with a hurricane season. The capital, Belmopan has 20,000 inhabitants. Other major cities are Corozal, Orange Walk, Belize City, San Pedro, San Ignacio, Dangriga and Punta Gorda. Places are the ruins of Mayan cities Caracol, Lamanai, Xunantunich and Lubaantun, the Community Baboon game, coral reefs, the Blue Hole, the sea life, flora and fauna in the jungle and the Garifuna music.
